Body temperature, systemic inflammation and risk of adverse events in patients with acute coronary syndromes

Body temperature (BT) is a century-old measure of systemic inflammation correlating with infarct size. A study by van der Stouwe JG et al., including members of the CMC, has investigated the predictive utility of initial BT across the heterogenous spectrum of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and found that initial BT shows a U-shaped relationship with 1-year risk of major adverse cardiovascular events among those with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome but not in those with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.
