New biomarker JCAD predicts adverse cardiovascular events in patients with ACS

A new study published in the European Heart Journal by members of the Center for Molecular Cardiology highlights the junctional protein associated with coronary artery disease (JCAD) as a biomarker and potential therapeutic target in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) who remain at high cardiovascular risk despite guideline-recommended care.

In two patient cohorts, elevated JCAD levels were associated with recurrent major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) among patients with residual risk. The study further demonstrated that JCAD correlates with impaired endogenous fibrinolysis and altered coagulation, suggesting a potential mechanistic link between JCAD and persistent ischaemic risk after ACS.
